We are so excited to announce our amazing charity partnership with the Sheffield Young Carers! An incredible charity that we are so proud to be able to support.

WHAT DO SHEFFIELD YOUNG CARERS DO?

SYC works with children and young people between the ages of 8-25 who are young carers, or impacted by familial substance misuse to make a difference for life. These young people provide a substantial amount of unpaid care for a relative who has disabilities, long-term
physical illnesses, mental health difficulties and/or drug or alcohol issues. Young carers are often overlooked and feel excluded by the services that support their families, despite being experts and key partners in their care. SYC believes it’s the right of every young carer to be recognised in their role and have the same opportunities as their non-caring peers.

WHAT WE’RE DOING TO HELP

If you’re buying a ramen on a Tuesday in our Sheffield branch then £1 of your purchase price will go directly to the SYC! No extra cost to our customers, just come in and support a good cause and get your yummy ramen too!

What different pillars do Sheffield young carers focus on?

Support for young people: Confidential one-to-one listening and support sessions;

Weekly support groups to build resilience and reduce stigma and isolation;

Fun, respite activities during school holidays;

Support through key transitions; and access to therapeutic support through our counselling service.

Support for families: Working with cared-for parents to reduce the amount and impact of caring on children in their families.

Social change: Youth voice and influence work; capacity-building and practice development for local agencies to help them better identify and support young carers, co-produced with our service users; local, national and international strategic development work within the education, health and voluntary sectors; and campaign/policy work.
