Homeless Street Angels: Fighting Homelessness with Compassion
Beginning in December 2024, we’re proud to partner with Homeless Street Angels, an organisation that goes beyond traditional homeless support to provide comprehensive, dignified assistance to individuals experiencing homelessness.
Homeless Street Angels believes in seeing the person, not just the circumstance. Their holistic approach provides not just immediate shelter and support, but pathways to long-term stability, personal growth, and community reintegration.
Our charity partnership aims to amplify their crucial work, helping to break cycles of homelessness and restore hope and opportunity.
Changing Lives is a national registered charity based in Gateshead that provides specialist support for thousands of vulnerable people and their families every month. The charity supports people experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, addictions, and long-term unemployment, helping over 12,000 individuals overcome their problems and live safe, successful, independent lives each year. With over 45 years of experience supporting people facing long-term social exclusion, the organisation operates through four main service areas: Housing and Homelessness, Drug and Alcohol Recovery, Women and Children, and Employment services. They are commissioned by Newcastle City Council to deliver crisis response and homelessness prevention services, sexual health services, and drugs and alcohol services.
The charity believes that everyone deserves a safe home, a rewarding job, and a life free from addiction or abuse, and that with the right support, anyone can change their life for the better. They take a person-centred, holistic approach, aiming to support individuals to access the services they need and empower them to make informed choices. Their services include specialist accommodation for veterans, young people, women in recovery with their children, and people escaping domestic violence or modern slavery. Since launching their employment teams in 2010, Changing Lives has helped 505 people into permanent employment, with 75% of those completing work placements finding employment within 12 weeks. The charity also operates social enterprises including charity shops and a furniture warehouse to support their charitable work.
LAMP is a charity that has been providing independent advocacy services to the people of Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland since 1989. The organisation supports individuals in having their views and wishes heard at critical appointments with healthcare professionals, including GPs, Mental Health Teams, and during physical health consultations. Their skilled team of advocates understands the challenges within both mental and physical health systems and can challenge professionals on behalf of clients who feel unable to do so themselves. Additionally, their Information and Advice Officers help people find appropriate services for their circumstances and make referrals when needed.
LAMP provides free person-centred community advocacy services, focusing on listening, supporting, and empowering individuals throughout their recovery journey. The charity serves those who need help understanding medical terminology or treatment plans, wish to question decisions about their care, or feel that health professionals aren’t taking their concerns seriously. Their advocates attend appointments with clients, speak on their behalf when necessary, and work to ensure that each person’s voice is heard whilst empowering them to self-advocate wherever possible. The organisation operates on the principle of focusing on outcomes that individuals want for themselves, rather than imposing what advocates think might be best.
Instant Neighbour has been working to tackle poverty and improve lives in Aberdeen City and Shire for almost 40 years. From providing food parcels and affordable reused furniture to running social enterprises like Joinerinc and Carpetinc, the charity ensures that individuals and families on low incomes can access safe, comfortable homes and essential household goods.
Beyond practical support, Instant Neighbour also creates opportunities for volunteering and supported employability, helping people facing unemployment, mental health challenges, or social exclusion to build confidence and re-enter the workforce. Inclusive and community-focused, Instant Neighbour welcomes everyone to shop, donate, volunteer, or access their services, making a lasting difference across the region.
